Meaning of Sacrifice in the Oracle of the Triad

Once again a negative card for the querent in the messages it reveals to them. But this one is more abrupt and violent in its words, even though these only concern the short term and the card is not truly harmful to the future of the person involved. The Sacrifice card is therefore firmly rooted in the present, although it may bring back unglorious past deeds. It is fatal and brings much pain, as well as heavy failures to bear, but it urges the querent to make great sacrifices in their present life in order to rid themselves of embarrassing matters. The Sacrifice card is very violent in its imagery, which perfectly matches its message. Here, no symbols linked to ancient mythologies or to Freemasonry. Only Christianity is depicted, alongside many genuinely aggressive elements. Thus, right in the middle of the card sits a chalice filled with a dark red liquid, which of course brings us back to the cup of the Holy Grail belonging to the Christian religion. But it is around this golden cup that things get tricky, for the entire left side is filled with an unfurled crown of thorns, recalling the one Christ wore when he sacrificed himself for our Salvation, the salvation of us all. On the right side is the calligraphy of the word Sacrifice, which mysteriously takes on the sharp shape of a sword. As for the bottom of the card, there lies a long dagger with a most cutting blade whose tip is bloodied. From a more abstract standpoint, the card is linked to the astrological sign of Scorpio, and to the number 46, which in numerology embodies the drawing closer to all Divinity.

During a divinatory reading, the Sacrifice card announces to the querent that they will have to make drastic choices to get out of situations in which they have become bogged down. They will therefore have to cut themselves off from certain things or people to escape the deadlock.
