Meaning of the Desert in the Oracle of the Triade

Card No. 42

This card embodies a period of introspection and withdrawal into oneself that every individual must face at some point in life. As its name suggests, it reveals to the querent that they will have to undertake their “crossing of the desert”, where, alone and without any outside help, they will have to confront problems and hardships. This card is therefore negative for them, yet it is still on their side, since it always foretells a kind of short-term crisis. So yes, the querent will find themselves in an uncomfortable position, besieged by challenges that are hard to overcome, especially when these touch upon feelings, but they will overcome them and pull through this deadlock with their head held high.

As one might expect, the card called the Desert depicts a vast expanse of sand where nothing appears on the horizon, save for a powerful, blazing, scorching sun. Just looking at it for a few seconds is enough to bring on a hot flush, so much does this Saharan desert seem as burning as it is empty of everything. Apart from a few illusions straight out of a mirage, such as the slightly blurred calligraphy of the word desert inlaid on the right-hand side of the card, this is most certainly no place for man, who, were he to find himself there by accident, would have great trouble getting out alive. Although the card bears no further esoteric symbols, it is nonetheless associated with the astrological sign of Cancer, and is linked to the number 42, which in numerology embodies the shamanic karma of every being.

During a divinatory reading, the Desert card therefore announces to the querent that they will find themselves all alone, facing themselves and the consequences of their past actions. A dark period in which they will have to search deep within for the right solutions to the problems they themselves have sown. This coming period can be seen as a punishment inflicted by the Creator, or quite simply as an additional test that life places on the querent’s path.

❤️ The Desert card in Love ❤️

You are in a relationship

You or your partner seem somewhat distant within your relationship. Most likely due to an obvious lack of feelings for one another, your union is becoming somewhat barren, and above all dull. One of you is therefore absent, having retreated into their own bubble, which they prefer to inhabit alone.

You are single

It is hard to imagine the card symbolising the crossing of the Desert being compatible with a future encounter that might have put an end to your single life. But rest assured, for the announcements of such an encounter are only valid in the short term.

🧠 The Desert card in Work and Finance 🧠

A crossing of the Desert is often synonymous with financial troubles, but above all with a blockage from a professional standpoint. You can no longer cope and therefore seem to be losing control of your work. However much you rack your brains, the solutions still seem far ahead of you. And the worst part is that you are all alone.

🧘 The Desert card in Well-being and Spirituality 🧘

It is a period of intense doubt that you must face. Like Moses stranded in the Sinai desert, you search in vain for the right directions to take in order to regain a certain peace. But your quest will soon be rewarded.
