The Meaning of the Man in the Oracle of the Triade

This is not strictly speaking a neutral card, although it is neither fundamentally positive nor truly negative, but it is a card that can be influenced by some of the 56 other cards of this Oracle. When it appears, it tells the querent that a male figure is about to enter their life, and that this man will play a leading role in events soon to come in their destiny. This new relationship may be of a friendly, romantic or professional nature, but in any case, the querent will be deeply affected by it. And this whether this new acquaintance proves favourable to them or not.

This card is influenced more by religion and Freemasonic codes than by the mythology of ancient Greece. It depicts half the face of a man with a shaved head, in close-up. If his gaze is empty and he is bald, it is because he embodies wisdom and obedience to a deity, like many monks the world over. If his face is cut down the middle, it is so that his feminine half does not appear, which we will find later with card No. 25. In the background of the card, we can make out half of a red triangle, which embodies the fire of the sun and the most celestial planet Mars, both of which are tied to the very principles of masculinity. The Man card is linked to the number 14 (2×7), which refers us back to that of the Door, symbolising the choices of openness that a life offers, but also to the astrological signs Taurus and Gemini.

During a divinatory reading, the Man card thus announces that a man is going to burst into our life, and that this will have a certain impact, positive or negative, on our destiny. By nature, this man is as helpful as he is likeable and charming, but in the presence of other negative cards, he can become greedy and quick-tempered. For a male querent, the Man card placed next to the Temptation card will announce a homosexual desire.
