Meaning of the Return in the Oracle of the Triade

This is a somewhat special card in its messages, since it is neither particularly positive nor negative for the querent. Nor can it be considered a neutral card, for it is not truly influenceable, and is therefore quite different from those. In fact, if this card named Return has its place within this Oracle, it is more to analyse, judge and comment on fragments of the querent’s life, and thus help them by advising them as best as possible. It is therefore not an essential card for them, but it has its value since it addresses central points of their daily life. It weighs the pros and cons of all their actions, and brings out the share of good and evil resulting from each of them.
Just as complex in its depiction, the Return card is certainly one of the most difficult to interpret. At its centre we first find a serpent with a dragon’s head biting its own tail. The latter symbolises the eternal recurrence of every cycle, and the return to life of all things belonging to the universe. Behind this serpent lies a heart evoking the engine of the matrix, whose tip is made of two triangular diamonds, each symbolising the passive and the active of every principle. In the background of the card, a perpetual movement of horizontal lines reminds us that everything always returns after having departed, and at the very top of the card is found the Greek inscription « One is All » so dear to the Freemasons who practise alchemy. The card is also associated with the astrological sign of Aquarius, and with the number 51, which evokes in numerology the power struggles contained within every individuality.
During a divinatory reading, the Return card expresses through its messages a soul-searching that is very useful to the querent in order to face the future as serenely as possible. It helps them to discern the best path to take, while taking into account the echoes of the past. In any case, it prevents them from going round in circles, and urges them to evolve rather than regress.
