Meaning of Forgetting in Cupid’s Oracle of Love

This rather sad card in its basic observation could very well have been named indifference. Indeed, it deals with a thorny subject in love, since it addresses the condition of abandoned people when their partner decides to put an end to their relationship. Because, during a separation, there is almost always one of the 2 partners who is left on the sidelines, suffering in silence and falling faster than one believes into the forgetting and the indifference of their ex-partner. A sad situation, then, when after having loved each other strongly and having praised each other to the skies for years, the feelings experienced reach such a low level that they no longer even take into account the suffering of the other.

So much so that in most cases, the person who decides to start their life over by abandoning the other to their despair, will have no pity nor emotion, even though they are making a real victim of them. Fortunately, wounds do manage to heal with time. Thus, in most cases, the people who have had to live through such an abandonment recover little by little and end up finally finding love again. So they at last come out of the shadow to find a touch of light again by opening their heart once more to love. They come out of forgetting and indifference to become important again in the eyes of someone else, who, one hopes, will know how to take great care of them and this, for a longer time.

To depict this sad but realistic fact, the card sets us before an old pair of clodhoppers apparently stored away for a very long time at the very back of a cupboard. It is the enormous spider’s web surrounding them that shows us that these shoes have not been used for ages and that they have been forgotten by their owner, who must surely have found themselves others. This card is linked to the number 36, which gives us the figure 9 after reduction and which symbolises the end of a cycle and the start of a new one.
