Meaning of the Panther in the Persian Tarot

It closely follows the Tiger card, and this is logical, since in Asia the Panther is the 2nd most feared feline after the latter. With its black coat like the night, and its bright yellow eyes like the powerful rays of the sun, the Panther is therefore the second of the figures embodying the animal world of the Indira Persian Tarot. Within this most spiritual deck of cards, which oscillates between oriental enchantment in the manner of the tales of the Thousand and One Nights and a pronounced Hindu tradition, the Panther card is the one that warns the querent of the possible dangers they will soon have to face.

By depicting a black panther, it insists on strength and ferocity, but also on the sensuality that can lie dormant in each of us, like this animal that is as cunning as it is skilful. For while the black panther still fascinates the crowds as much as ever, it is at the same time greatly feared for its skill at surprising its prey by camouflaging itself as well as possible, which brings us to the true revelations of this card: jealousies, dominations and betrayals. Moreover, the background colour of this card is yellow, which is supposed to represent the symbolism of betrayal, since it is the colour of Judas’s tunic at his last meal in the company of Jesus.

During a divinatory reading, the Panther Card announces to us that, beyond our ability to always seduce and draw others to ourselves, we could suddenly be confronted with jealousy, or even aggression from those who wish to see us fail. It therefore calls us to a certain caution in our future exchanges with others.
