Meaning of the Witch in the Persian Tarot

Contrary to popular belief, even if this card is certainly frequently negative, it can just as easily be favourable to the querent on questions bearing on subjects with a spiritual connotation. Thus, it is harmful when one speaks of the relational ties and the material situation of the person concerned, but it is on the contrary very positive on views and situations touching upon their intellect and their thirst for knowledge about all that may surround them. The Witch is therefore a card that can nonetheless frighten when it appears, since it is among those that have a bad reputation within the tarot.

It is true that it genuinely embodies the mystical side inherent to the traditional values of Hinduism, but with an even more occult connotation, which few cards possess in the Indira Persian Tarot. This much-decried card therefore represents what is commonly called a witch, that is to say an old woman of unlovely appearance, who embodies on her own the forces of evil and the female equivalent of the devil in Christian law. Greatly feared for her ties deemed dangerous, because supposedly diabolical, with the beyond, these women were burned alive in Europe during the period of the Inquisition. For the simple and sole reason that their clairvoyance and knowledge  frightened the common run of mortals. Whereas in other Indian or Asian civilisations, men possessing the same powers were more than revered…

During a divinatory reading, the Witch Card can therefore announce to us many troubles to come in our destiny, at least for a certain time. Malevolence, jealousy and other traps could be on our programme. But at the same time, it reveals to us that all our intellectual endeavours will be favoured.
