The Belline Oracle in question

The Belline Oracle tarot deck, created in 1865 by the mage Edmond, is a highly accomplished Oracle. It derives from the Tarot of Marseille, while drawing inspiration from religion, the order of knights and the planets of our solar system.

A disciple of Mademoiselle Lenormand, the mage Edmond became, after his training, the personal seer of figures such as Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo and even Napoleon III.

When he draws each of the cards of this new Oracle that he is bringing to life, he does not yet know that his sheets will lie « dormant » for nearly a century at the bottom of a trunk. It was therefore around the 1950s that a certain seer, going by the name of Marcel Belline, discovered in an attic the trunk containing the famous sketches.

After reworking them and bringing them up to date, Belline thus marketed this oracle under his own name. Despite the rather tactless « borrowing », this man who until then had known only misfortune became famous overnight and his Belline Oracle would go on to shake up the conventions of tarot reading.

A tarot named the Belline Oracle

Made up of 53 cards representing, as in the Tarot of Marseille, the number of kabbalistic and esoteric symbols, the Belline Oracle is often presented in a black and gold case.

These 53 cards are divided into 7 astrological families of 7 cards each. Each of these families bears the name of a planet of our astral system and has its own meaning during the interpretation of the cards in a reading.
