Meaning of Duration in Cupid’s Oracle of Love

In love, time is of very great importance and is not the same depending on our situation. The notion of time is therefore highly relative and unique to each one of us, even if we all try not to waste it and to use it wisely. Thus, for a single person time will seem longer, and the days spent alone will be counted one after another in a kind of waiting nourished by hope. On the contrary, someone living in a relationship will not see their days go by and will not have enough time available to accomplish everything that must be done on a daily basis, in order to satisfy the desires of the loved one.

There are therefore several notions of duration of time corresponding to different situations. And it is certain that the more our hearts and minds are occupied by the love we feel for another person, the less  we see time go by. This is an established fact, and all those who have been through the “love at first sight” stage know it perfectly well. To embody these facts, this card depicts several ways of expressing the duration of time. First of all, it places us before an hourglass, like the ones every household owned in days gone by. This evokes a certain span of time that runs by fairly quickly, the time it takes for the sand to tip completely over to the opposite side.

Next, we find ourselves before a depiction of our galaxy, where several planets belonging to our solar system can be made out. In this case, we may speak of space-time, or of time that flows very slowly, reminding us of images filmed in extreme slow motion. In numerology, the number 12 is equivalent to the figure 3, which embodies renewal, but also the notion of movement contained within every reaction.
