Crossed cartomancy spread
Among the many practices relating to the esoteric world of clairvoyance, cartomancy is the one that stands out the most for its popularity. Indeed, from its creation to the present day, the divinatory art of predicting the future for a subject through the interpretation of cards has always fascinated the crowds, just like an astrological horoscope, but in a more concrete way thanks to the various card spreads practised by cartomancers and other tarot readers.

For just like card games, divinatory spreads are many and varied. And one of the most telling remains the crossed cartomancy spread.
Cartomancy and tarology
While it is certain that the latter stems from the former, they are by no means in competition with one another, but rather complementary.
This is precisely why there is no problem with these two practices, which are distinct yet twin-like, sharing the same astrological influences and numerological ones. And why both may be used in similar divinatory spreads. This is, for example, the case between the crossed cartomancy spread and the tarot cross spread.
But to grasp this point fully, one must clearly understand the nuances distinguishing cartomancy from tarology.
Cartomancy is the divinatory art of predicting the future for a subject through a traditional deck of cards numbering 32 or 52.

It developed in the 14th century, driven by nomadic Bohemian women and fortune-tellers. They, who travelled in caravans with their large families across all of the Orient, had brought playing cards to Europe, where they began to use them to predict the future for various clients, for they had found singular meanings for each of the cards, and this thanks to their gifts of clairvoyance and 6th sense. Very quickly, they achieved a success that exceeded their expectations and everyone wanted to have their cards read by these wayfaring mediums. Without really knowing it, these women had just created cartomancy.
Tarology starts from the same divinatory principle as cartomancy, except that it uses the cards of a tarot deck. Arrived from Italy a century after the latter, the tarot game was even more esoteric still, for its cards were printed with characters and subjective figures relating to the deepest and most ambiguous feelings of human nature.

Of course, fortune-tellers adopted it to predict the future for their many clients, and numerous divinatory tarot decks appeared, such as the ever-famous Tarot of Marseille or the Oracle of Belline, inspired by the most renowned clairvoyant in Paris in the 18th century, Mlle Lenormand.
Spreads performed in cartomancy as well as tarology

Tarology made many followers after its creation and somewhat shook up the world of cartomancy. All the more so as very well-known public figures became its clients. But it never dethroned the famous traditional deck of cards that was already found in every household.
Today, the two practices are shared on equal terms and value to be able to predict the future for a given subject, and they can be used in divinatory spreads with many connotations. This is why one can occasionally witness controversial debates between cartomancers and tarot readers regarding the latter.

The most striking example concerns the crossed cartomancy spread, which is borrowed and reworked by the famous tarot reader Denis Lapierre during free clairvoyance spreads with 15 cards, performed online on his website.
But these stances are childish and somewhat outdated, for whatever the manner of performing it, what matters is indeed the final result of a spread, which must of course be of service to the client.
The crossed cartomancy spread
It is a very effective spread for predicting the future or at the very least answering one or more questions concerning the key subjects of all our daily lives. It is therefore a matter of love, work, health and money.

It is therefore practised with a traditional deck of cards, which is turned into a 32-card version by removing from the deck all the cards from no. 2 to no. 6. One is thus always left with our 2 colours, namely red and black, and our 4 suits or signs, which are Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs. Of these suits, then, only the cards of the Ace, numbers 7 to 10 and the Jacks, Queens and Kings remain. All these cards have a meaning of their own, which will give many details about the personality of the client during the interpretation of the latter.
But each of the 4 suits also has its own symbolism.
Thus, the Hearts suit expresses everything relating to the emotional and to the values of the couple and the family.

The Diamonds suit embodies everything connected to material possessions and patrimonial assets.
The Spades suit recounts the worries of daily life and everything that could pose an obstacle during the carrying out of projects.
The Clubs suit, for its part, speaks to us of everything that is going to come to fruition.
It is synonymous with positive change and luck.
To start this spread off in the best way, you will need to shuffle the cards carefully, so that they are well mixed together and there is no interference with a previous spread.
You will then need your client to draw 5 cards from the deck, which you will keep face down while you position them facing you on the table.

The first card drawn will go to the left and will signify the favourable side.
The second will go to the right and will signify everything that may seem unfavourable.
The third card will be placed at the very top and will speak of the situation in the present moment.
The fourth will be placed at the very bottom and symbolises the personality of the client, taking into account their past actions to speak of events to come.
Finally, the fifth card will be positioned in the middle, so that you end up with a figure in the shape of a cross. This last and fifth card will be the synthesis of all those read previously.
It is from it that the predictions to be formulated for your client will arise. Then, the latter may ask you the questions that come to mind and to which they inevitably await answers.
Once this is done, you will turn the cards over one by one, in the same direction in which you placed them, and read them one after the other. Then will come the moment to interpret them thanks to the meanings and symbolisms of each of them, which are in principle always the same since cartomancy has existed.
It is therefore the interpretation of these 5 cards drawn, but also the position they occupy within the cross, that will make great revelations to you about events to come in the destiny of your client. You will then only have to interpret them for them in turn, taking great care not to upset their emotions, for this kind of revelation can shake the latter’s mind somewhat, whether they are favourable or negative for them.
