The Pomona, which means death in the Gypsy language, is once again a celebration, one that the Gypsies hold every year on the day of Pentecost, in order to honour the souls of the departed. On one side, we find the Mataora, head of the clan, busy preparing various miracle potions and remedies to guard against illness and to drive away evil spirits and negative energies. On the other, the rest of the clan which, after choosing a fine tree with few leaves, hangs a multitude of bones from each of its branches, in such a way that the bones stand for the fruit.
The Gypsies thus celebrate the kinship between the tree and the human being, but also death, which remains the first act of a second life, thanks to the white colour of the bones. At nightfall, while the festivities are generally in full swing, they pour wine at the foot of the tree, hoping in this way to drive away for good the possible malevolent spirits of the people who died during the year.

With this card, we are therefore faced with a powerful tree, entirely stripped of its leaves, which have been replaced by numerous bones from different animals. These hang from the many branches and take the place of the traditional fruit.
And yet it is the fine season, since the grass is a rich green, the sky a dazzling blue and a magnificent rainbow unfurls on the horizon, linking the earth and the heavens. A few birds can be seen fluttering around the tree, a symbol of life, and an immaculately white dog, lying at its foot, which like a ghost embodies life after death.
